ORGANIZATION

The CLEANTECH Initiative Ostdeutschland is an umbrella organisation for companies of the Cleantech sector (Environmentally friendly energies and energy storage, Sustainable water management, Energy efficiency, Circular Economy, Raw material and material efficiency, Sustainable mobility) from the five new federal states of Germany and Berlin.

It is a loose association of more than 3,000 companies and research institutions from East Germany and aims at combining the potentials and experience available in this technological future field - across sectors and federal states - and thus supporting the economic success of the companies. 

For the coordination of the network, the branch office constitutes the central transfer office. By means of the CIO-HUB, a strong alliance with representatives of the business development corporations from the five new federal states of Germany and Berlin is created - with the aim of ensuring the collaboration across federal state borders, specifying the strategic orientation of the initiative and intensifying the exchange of experience of the federal states. 

The practical co-operation of the members, the exchange of experience and information as well as the initiation of co-operation projects in the corresponding lead market are realised via the working groups and the co-operative projects.

History: 

• 2011 – Start  of the CLEANTECH Initiative Ostdeutschland on behalf of the commissioner of the Federal Government for the new eastern federal states of Germany, Federal Ministry of the Interior

• 2014 – Continuation of the CLEANTECH Initiative Ostdeutschland behalf of the commissioner of the Federal Government for the new eastern federal states of Germany, Federal Ministry for Economics and Energy 
  
  

Since the beginning of 2011, the RKW Sachsen GmbH has been managing the
CLEANTECH Initiative Ostdeutschland (CIO) on behalf of the ministries.
