Clean technologies are in demand in almost all areas of life. The CIO focusses on sectors with outstanding national and international growth potential and has identified six lead markets for its work:
The term "Cleantech" covers all innovative and "clean" fields of technology, which contribute to the protection and conservation of the natural resources and the environment. It includes all environmentally friendly, emission-reducing, particularly energy-efficient and resource-saving products in all economic sectors.
The Cleantech technologies have an outstandingly great significance in East Germany.
The environmental remediation, extensive environmental projects and new developments, which had been carried out particularly in East Germany in the last 25 years, have contributed to this as well. A rapid development has been taken place in these areas. Today, there are more than 3,000 Cleantech companies in East Germany, which have vast specialist know-how and experience. The development of Cleantech is a strategic starting point for the economic development in East Germany and may become a mainstay of the East German economy.
